Staying Warm In Your Cold Bedroom
Is your bedroom cooler than the rest of your home during the winter? Before you go and wrack up a huge heating bill trying to keep that one space as warm as the rest of your home, there's a few things you can do to stay more comfortable in your chilly bedroom. Here, you'll find a short list of changes to make to warm things up a bit.
Check The Vents
Check that all of the vents in the room are open and aren't blocked by any furniture, drapes or décor. You see, the heating system in your home relies on the cool air return vents, as well as the vents that carry the heat. If those vents are blocked, the air will not circulate through the home efficiently and you'll end up with cold areas and higher heating bills.
Have The System Serviced
If you haven't had your heating system serviced in the past year or two, it's time to get a heating repair service out to look at it. If the system isn't functioning properly, your home will not warm efficiently and it could result in colder areas of the home.
Insulate Around The Outlets
Any electrical outlets or switches that are on the exterior walls need to be insulated. To do this, just remove the screws that hold the cover in place and get a can of spray foam insulation. Insert the tip of the spray hose into the side of the outlet and spray a bit of foam. It will swell as it hardens.
Buy A Heated Mattress Cover
If you're like most people, most of the time that you spend in your bedroom is spent in bed. Instead of warming the entire room up, how about you just warm up the bed that you spend your time in. You can even find a heated mattress pad that's equipped with a timer. You can set the timer to turn the heated pad on to warm up the bed at the time that you would normally go to bed.
Install a Heat Light
Installing a heat light in the room can help to provide you with enough heat to get dressed without having to heat up the entire room.
